Wind is found in most parts of the world, off-shore wind is considered to have the highest potential energy as there are higher wind speeds offshore than on land, so offshore farms generate more electricity per amount of capacity installed.
The Kazakh steppe enjoys many of the advantages of offshore, like the sea it is mainly flat and is sparsely populated and so is ideally suited to the production of wind energy, this was identified back in 2013 when the UNDP-GEF National Wind Atlas and measurement programme was performed.
In the opening paragraph the wind atlas states, “From a wind resource point of view, Kazakhstan is renowned to be one of the most appropriate countries in the world to develop wind energy.”
